For The Love of Asclepias

I am not a weed, I am a Wild Flower!

My journey with Asclepias, or commonly known as Milkweed, started 5 years ago. Since then my passion and fascination for this genus just keeps growing every time I work with it.  I have often wondered why the imperiled, endangered and rare ones are not being cultivated and either reintroduced or introduced to more gardeners that want to help make a difference for the Monarch Butterfly.  Without Milkweed it will make life extremely hard for this amazing butterfly that travel up to approximately 3,000 miles over 4-5 generations before the last generation return to their overwintering grounds. In fact, they will most likely cease to exist without Milkweed.

I have traveled to many WMA, state - and national parks to survey and look for the natives that grow in GA, as well as FL. It's really amazing to find them in their natural habitat and see where they grow, how they grow and what their neighboring friends are. So this page is more about the photography that I have done while looking for and finding this incredible wild flower.  I understand why it's called "milkweed" but I wish the name would be changed to show their true significance, as well as fascinating pollination process.
